Fees and Expenses

The skills involved in specialist projects or conservation work, are different to those required for standard or vernacular properties. Each project is assessed for its complexity, and approximate time input, and these variables are used to calculate an appropriate fee proposal. At agreed stages within a project, ABC will provide a fully detailed invoice for payment. For surveys, the invoice will require payment before publication of the report.

Fee Calculations

Fees charged are directly connected to the project brief, which will detail all the elements that are included or excluded from the services provided. This provides protection to all parties entering into the contract.

Fees can be structured to suit the project and client requirements and can comprise:

  • Fixed fee
  • Fee based on percentage of project cost.
  • Time charge (with cap)
  • Monthly time charge

ABC understands clients budgetary constraints, and will provide regular updates on costs. Also, ABC will inform the client if budget costs are to be exceeded in advance of this occurrence. It is the policy of ABC to enable the client to be in charge of their budget, and remove the occurrence of shock overspends upon the completion of a project.

Disbursements

The fee proposal will detail any additional costs that may be incurred during the preparation and running of the contract or undertaking a survey.  These might include:

  • Mileage and travel costs
  • Accommodation
  • Printing
  • Postage
  • Remote drone photography usage

The following items are not charged as disbursements, and the client is advised to appoint specialist experts and to pay for these items directly (The list below may need to be adapted if other services are required).  However, ABC will co-ordinate all other matters within the agreed project fee.

  • Specialist surveys
  • Ground contamination reports
  • Planning Application fees
  • Planning specialists
  • Building Regulation fees
  • Structural engineers

Negotiation

ABC aims to provide a quality service, at a realistic cost to the client. There is no benefit to either party in cutting costs or corners, when the end result is not what was expected. Regular dialogue, and working in partnership is of paramount importance to ABC.
